NATURAL
Paige Mary Grace gives great advice, Astrophe applauds.
Tell us about yourself.
I’m a stylist, creative director and model. I’m completely obsessed with animals. I hope one day that I am a great success so I can open up an amazing animal shelter! I’m ambitious and entrepreneurial and I’m a woman trying to break down many barriers in this industry. I’m outrageous and always speak my mind.
You modelled, styled and conceptualised this shoot. What was your motivation?
I think it’s important to show Curve Models can do exactly what a mainstream model can do. I don’t like that we [Curve Models] are still not seen as suited too high fashion. When we are booked it’s often for lingerie, or something pretty and smiley. I wanted to make something dark and mysterious, but beautiful.
Why is it important for our audience to see a powerful curve model photographed wearing haute couture?
We’re fed the concept that only a certain type of girl is allowed to wear high fashion. It’s as if, if you don’t fit that mould, you’re not beautiful enough for luxury.
When do you feel most powerful?
In the past, I have suffered from anxiety and depression, and it took me a long time to not care what people thought of me. I was bullied in school, for being fat and ugly, so my confidence was non-existent. I always thought I had a great personality and sense of humour. I wanted to get in to the fashion industry. I grew confidence from styling and shooting self portraits in front of the camera. Now, I feel so at peace. I feel most powerful when women tell me I have inspired them.
Your versatility in this shoot shows that curve models are artists, contrary to some many might think. If you could leave us with one body positive comment, what would it be?
Dress how you want. Do what really makes you happy. Delete people out of your life (or off your social media) who make you feel ‘less than great, or who make you feel like you have to change. Individuality is the greatest. Be your natural self. Love who you are! As long as you’re healthy; don’t try to be anything else. Life is way too short. Be nice to everyone. Don’t judge. Travel and follow your dreams. That’s all that matters
