ANGEL ENERGY

Angel Energy was a Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival independent runway event creatively directed and coordinated by recent RMIT fashion graduate, Madeline Assi. The main concept behind the show was collaborating feminine aesthetics with notions of street wear whilst playing with softer ethereal and angelic themes. The event was celebrating emerging fashion designers and the collaboration of creatives from multidisciplinary practices, including floristry, art installation, sound, performance, choreography and dance.

Sparked by an interest in contact improvisation, the performance is an exploration of one’s body in relationship to materials. The series of instinctual and unfiltered movements provides an honest portrayal of body and dress in motion. Adopting a raw and stripped back approach to dance, the piece follows an unrehearsed choreography informed by magnetic force.

Images and film by Renee Leah / Seven fashion designers: Bayley Eade, Matilda Comb, Katherine Nolan, Gracie Forshaw, Michelle Li, Georgie Allen and Madeline Assi / The floristry, set design and installation was by Kayla Moon and Aleinor Renaux from Xxflos / Sound design by Mitchel Waters, an improvised piece performed by Maggie Zhu which was creatively directed by Michelle Li and sound design by Ossian Shaw / Contemporary group dance piece choreographed by Yvette Stanford and creatively directed by Madeline Assi.
